Our project
Objectives: The research proposed in this action addresses one of the major innovation issues in endoscopic surgery: the creation of assisted vision systems to enhance the surgeon’s vision and increase reproducibility and safety in surgery. The project will aim at developing ready-to-use tools for digital identification of vessels during endoscopy, allowing real time enhanced vision, functional information and reconstruction of vessel maps. The system will pick up vessels up to 4 mm under the tissue surface, invisible to the human vision, an information now impossible to obtain that would be invaluable for great number of endoscopic operations.
Approach and methodology: The research work has been broken down to 4 main working packages as follows: (1) endoscopic vascular vision, (2) extraction-analysis of optical-functional information and (3) vessel tracking and creation of maps. Main research will be structured in four workpackages (WP). WPs 1 to 3 will to a large extent run in parallel, with mutual interaction, during the first 36 months of the programme, to become merged in WP 4 (Integration) the last 12 months.
